A Little Life - Continued

Bradly exited his large dorm room with a piece of paper in his hands. He was reading over one of the most recent letters for him uncle who was married and lived somewhere near Kay and Arron, who were busy with their son and their new daughter, Lindsey.

Not far away from where he was, Katey lived. He visited her on a daily basis and promised that he'd marry her one day.

Katey was making herself breakfast. And almost setting fire to several of the dishes. Even after living by herself for this long, she couldn't cook. She sighed.
"Ah well... Looks like burnt toast for breakfast again." She put some butter on it, and sat in the window seat of her room. She loved window seats, and had made her brother build one for her when it wasn't in the house she wanted. A small three bedroom house, with one bathroom, a kitchen, a entertainment room, and a dining room. She pulled the curtains apart, and looked out at the soundings. Marshmallow came to sit on her lap as she ate her toast. She was getting used to the taste of bunt things.
"Marshmallow.... How do you think my brother and everyone are doing?" She asked the cat.
"I'll bet Iwa is already in school now." She smiled a bit. "They've got another little one now you know... A girl."
Then she looked sadly up at the sky. "Arron's birthday is coming up soon.... In about a month... I wonder if I'll be there for it."

Bradly was done with his classes for the day and was heading over to Katey's. It was never a long walk and it was one he always looked forward to! He knocked on her door with a new present, a little bear he'd gotten her the other day.

Katey opened the door and smiled broadly.
"Bradly!" She hugged him. "Your here!" Marshmallow was at her feet.
He sniffed at Bradly and walked away.

Bradly wrapped his arms around her and then pulled the gift out of his bag, "I brought you something, my Sweet!" He pulled the bear out of his bag. It was holding a little black box.

Katey grinned. "YAY!" She exclaimed, and hugged him again. "It's so cute!"

"Yes, just like you!" Bradly kissed her and looked down at it, "Well are you going to open it? It's a gift with a gift."

"OH! OH YEAH! Of corse!" She laughed, though she thought hesitantly that this was going to end badly. She opened the box.

Inside was a little ring, exactly her size and gold with a little white diamond on the top. Engraved inside was 'love always'.
"Do you like it? I...I promised, it's not the most romantic moment..." Bradly was shaky, but smiling.

"Bradly.... You..." She started to cry. "You shouldn't spend your money on me so much...." She hugged him, and mumbled into his shirt something impossible to hear. It came out something like: "AHHUION"

"I'm...sorry what?" Bradly started to go extremely pale, he'd just proposed and she was crying! He wasn't sure what to think now, was she saying no?
"You...don't want to marry me? Is there someone else?"

She shook her head. "No... I only love you. Never..." She sniffled. "It's just.... I'm so useless.... You know..." She looked at the ground. "I umm..." Tears fell to the carpet at her feet. "Can you promise not to tell Arron something... Important?...."

Bradly felt sick to his stomach. His fists were clenched shaking...

This was supposed to be the happiest day of his life and hers. "Yeah...sure."

"I want to marry you... More than anything... But it's not fair to let you keep wasting things on me like this... Because... I could die soon...." Her tears fell faster now. "Because I won't be here much longer anyway. You shouldn't keep doing these things for me." She said. "So... Thank you for always taking care of me like this. But.... Goodbye..." She closed the door in his face, and slumped against it crying.

Bradly had the ring in his hand, face pale and heart ripped in two. He walked off the porch and down the street before he found a bench to sit down on. He called Landon first thing.

"I...I love her too much." He said shakily.

"I know..." Landon replied over the phone, sounding really upset about what had happened.

Bradly felt like he'd been killed, he felt completely dead.
