In the 'Future' XP

"H-Hey..." Samantha looked pretty sad as she laid back weakly, "Something went wrong, Max..." She said wearily.

He walked over to the bed and sat down looking at her for a long moment. "What happened?" He asked her, holding both her hands in his own.

"Apparently something went wrong when I used so much it sort of messed with the gene and they didn't make it...that's why it didn't come on so fast and I didn't know what was happening." Samantha sighed sadly and looked at him biting her lower lip. "I feel bad."

He hugged her, he didn't know what else he could do. "The kids came to... See you..." He said quietly. "Should I send them back home?"

"No, it's fine, they can come in." Samantha looked like she was about to cry.

He kissed her. "You sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure..." Samantha laid on her side and blinked slowly, knowing that she messed up royally.

Max left, and came back with the kids. "Hey!" Shouted Samuel. "I'm not aloud to do anything while we're here you know? It's so boring!" He jumped on the bed beside her bouncing up and down. "Hey Samantha.... Samuel come here... Don't bother Samantha right now." "But I'm not bothering her!!!" "Mathew..." Mathew went and picked up Samuel, come on." He said smiling at him, and putting him on his shoulders. "WEEEE!!!!" Shouted Samuel. "Shhh... Sam we're in a hospital." "Sorry..." He whispered.

Samantha smiled at them but didn't say much, "Hey..." She gulped a little as if trying not to cry but kept her cool. She sat up a little and hugged her knees to her chin.

"Whats wrong?" Asked Samuel. "You look sad...." Clara looked at Mathew and Mathew nodded. "Come on Sam, the girls want to be alone." He said smiling again and tickling the boy on his shoulders, who giggled. And they walked out. Leaving Max, Clara, and Samantha in the room. Max sat down on the bed and put an arm around her.

Samantha leaned on him and sighed again feeling at a loss for words. She wasn't sure how to explain what happened. All she knew was that she had to somehow.

Clara was silent. Max looked at Samantha as if to ask her something.

Samantha just began to cry, "I can't stand this silence someone just say something!" She was really really upset. For the first time in months she knew how Clara felt when her twins were put up for adoption without her permission. Only this time it wouldn't be the same, they were gone for good and Samantha really never knew them either. There was no time to think.

Clara looked at her. "Oh... Samantha I knew something was wrong...." Max hugged Samantha tightly, but had nothing to say so kept his mouth shut. "Samantha.... Did something happen to-" She stopped, she could already tell the answer. "Oh Samantha...." She said putting a hand over her mouth. "I'm so sorry..." She said feeling like crying herself.

"I really messed up and now I'm paying for it...I don't know what to do now..." Samantha calmed down, she wondered how Clara was able to figure it out.

Max held her closer as footsteps walked past the door. But no one came in and he relaxed. "Samantha..... There's really nothing you can do.... Except stop experimenting on yourself.... Maybe get some lab mice. Please... For your own sake." She said looking at the floor.

Samantha sighed, "Mice won't say how it works on human beings. It'll say how it works on mice." She sounded pretty upset but her face didn't show it. She really wanted to go home and lock herself away from everyone.

"I suppose.... But Samantha, there's no way this can be good for you... Surely it'll give you at least an idea of what it would do to humans?" Said Clara. Max stayed silent, he wasn't a scientist, he was a body guard. Last time he had opened his mouth about something like this, it had caused this whole mess.

Samantha sighed, "Forget it...I just need some sleep it's been a long day." She moved from his embrace and laid down, closing her eyes as she fell asleep.

Clara sighed. "I should go.... Mathew probably has his hands full with the twins and Samuel." She stood up "Sleep well..." she whispered and left.
Max leaned against the headboard of the bed, and sighed, looking down at Samantha sleeping. Wishing he could fix it all for her, and make everything work out. But he couldn't. For the first time in his life, he felt helpless.

Samuel was playing with the twins in the children waiting room, Mathew watching over them. "Has he done anything?" Clara asked when she got there. "Abnormal? No. But we should leave soon if your ready, he could start any time, he's getting pretty excited." She picked up the twins. "Come on time to go." She said smiling at them, and Mathew picked up Samuel. "AWWW!!! But we were just starting to have some fun!" "That's what I'm worried about. You can play when we get home." Mathew said, and they all headed out to call a cab to take them home.

-One Month Later-

Samantha was back home working again, she seemed to be more quiet than before.

-about thirty days later give or take-

Samuel was playing with the twins, or trying to. They were now nine months old, and were making lots of noises. None of which, in Jeremy's case were good. Clara was trying to make they're lunch, and Mathew was trying to take a shower, but kept coming out to make sure they were okay. Finally Clara said. "Just take your shower! They're fine!" Which only made Jeremy scream more as he left the room for a fifth time. Which caused Jade to make calming noises at him, not quite words but close as she could get. "Samuel hold Jeremy for me! I'll come and get Jade in a minuet!" She called into the other room, so Samuel did as he was told. She came back out with two bowls of baby food. "Here, you want to feed Jeremy for me?" She asked holding one of them out to Samuel. "YES!" He exclaimed, which startled Jeremy. "Shh!!!" Clara hissed at Samuel. "Sorry..." He said quietly, softly rocking Jeremy. She picked Jade up, and sat down next to Samuel, feeding her. "Be careful." she warned him. "Jeremy tends to be a bit messy." Samuel nodded, and picked up the spoon, feeding Jeremy who was quite happy to have lunch, and forgot what he was so upset about.

Max walked over to Samantha. "Hey..." He said quietly hugging her lightly from behind. "You doing okay?" He asked putting his chin on top of her head.

Samantha smiled, "Yeah I'm wonderful actually!" She hadn't sounded that cheerful in so long it was shocking.

Max smiled. "Really? Wow... You don't know how much I've been wanting to hear that." he said kissing her. "Whats got you so happy?" He asked still smiling, happy that she was back to her old self.


Clara set Jade down, and Samuel set Jeremy down, and he screamed. Clara shook her head and picked him back up as Mathew came back in. "You spoil that child." He said shaking his head. "Speek for yourself! Your the one who kept running in here when ever he made a noise." She said with a laugh. "Yes... I supose." He said sitting down next to her and picking up Jade. "Hello." he said to her, she looked at his eyes and blinked. "Yes I completely agree." He stated, smiling. Clara just shook her head.

Samantha grinned and tilted her head, "You guess!" She winked at him and went back to work on a project she was doing.
