In the 'Future' XP

He smiled. "I don't think I'd do anything without you. Don't know how I did." He said kissing her again.

-Eight Months Later-

Samantha bit her lower lip as she looked at the syringe she was working on. Hopefully this one wouldn't be as horrifying as the last few she'd made in the past eight months. She was waiting for Max to come around so they could hang around and talk a bit...or something. Though the lab wasn't the most fun place to hang out.

Max came and knocked on the door.

Samuel was sitting with Mathew, and Clara was watching the twins play in they're crib. "SO! How on earth did Clara have babies... You've only been married for eight months, and they look like they're eight months old." "Adopted." Said Mathew, which was truer than he knew. Because they were really Samantha's project on herself, instead of Clara. "Oh! Makes sense I guess, they don't look like either of you." Which was true. Jade had bright red hair, and green eyes, as did her brother. Clara didn't seam to be paying attention.

Samantha answered the door and hugged him immediately, "Eek!! I'm so happy to see you, this takes my mind off of these stupid projects I'm doing. I mean it I need some lab rats or something to test this stuff on instead of myself." She said.

He laughed and kissed her. "Then why don't you buy some? It's not that expensive, with all the money you have it should be easy." He avoided mentioning Thrilian's name, because he didn't like to think about his first best friend being dead. "It would be better for you anyway." He said hugging her. "I don't like you working on yourself like that...'

"Yeah I know...and being pregnant like that really isn't that great either..." Samantha blushed just a little bit, "Anyway...are you hungry?" She asked with a smile.

"Yeah you?" He smiled at her.

"CLARA! Can I hold Jade? Please!!!" "Okay but be careful." She picked Jade up and handed her to him, but when she did Jeremy started to cry. She sighed and shook her head at him. "Really you'd think his sister were a part of him or something the way he carries on like that." She said walking over and sitting next to Samuel as he held Jade. Mathew watched them both. Samuel did end up having to wear an eye patch, but his arms and legs worked just as well as they had before now, if not better. "Hello Jade! I'm Sam, and I'm your big brother!" he said. Clara smiled at him. "Not yet your not." She said. "Your filling out the papers tomorrow aren't you?" "Yes-" "Well then I'm as good as they're big brother!" He said hugging Jade lightly. "How come you adopted them first?" He complained. "Well Sam, they needed a home.... Thats why. Your already here, even if your not legally mine yet." "Hmm... I supose..."

"Starving! No I didn't use that stuff on myself again, I promise, I'm just really hungry!" Samantha led him further in as she began to cook.

Max smiled and watched her silently.

"DADDY!!!! Why on earth would you move there?! I wish my cat would hurry up and get here. Then I can play good chess!" "Your cat plays chess?" Said Clara disbelievingly. "Yes of coarse dosen't everyone's?" Mathew laughed. "Yeah dosen't everyone's Clara?" Clara just shook her head at the kid. "Right. Okay..."

Samantha came back and handed him some chicken, "I love this stuff, it's so good...so...what did Thrilian do with the children he brought her? I mean what...was his plan exactly?"

"Well... It hasn't worked so far, so I don't know if I should tell you... If it dose though you should know..." He hesitated, and tried not to look sad, Thrilian was gone now. He wouldn't get to see if his project worked or not.

"Maybe if you explain I can make it work..." Samantha leaned forward a little playing with a syringe she had left on the table earlier.

"It was a prodject.... He only picked three children out of nineteen for it, because he needed people who would be... And well... He found them. It's a drug for making people invincible... Probably some other effects too but he wasn't sure. They all know he told them before using it. So far as we've seen with Samuel it hasn't worked... But it could kick in at any time, and we have to be ready for anything. They could turn invisible, or start causing weather to change, anything really. He'd never tested it before on anyone but himself... But the tests had all failed up till this one, then he realised it couldn't work on him... It had to be someone healthy, and so he brought in the children. They had all survived many problems. Clara drank the whole bottle of poison when her aunt had been giving it to her slowly, just trying to get away from them. But it didn't work, she got sent to a home instead. Mathew worked with his dad in the army from day one of his existence. And Samuel, Samuel has had his own problems... Wont talk about it much to anyone, he hates to 'complain' as he puts it. But we know he's survived his own amount of harsh things and is still quite healthy. So they were chosen. I'm not sure how long it will take, because he didn't even know...." He trailed off there.


Clara took Jade back and put the twins back in they're pen. "That's enough of that go back to your game." She said smiling at Samuel. "But playing with Math-Daddy is boring, and your no better."

Samantha nodded, "Ah...I see...they are all very healthy. I'm not really...I've had too many bouts of morning sickness to be healthy." She joked.

Max laughed a bit, and kissed her. Then looked into her eyes with a far away look. "Do you still miss him too? Or am I just weird?....." He asked quietly.

"Well...I do and I don't...he really gave me a lot of grief before he died...I tried to help him." Samantha said.

He hugged her. "Yeah I know... He always wanted to do everything himself. If he could have he'd still have been protecting me... Even though I hardly need it." He smiled a bit at the memory.

Samantha nodded, "Yeah I guess so...lets try to forget it for now and hope that his plan works. I've almost found a cure for tuberculosis...though it may be too late for Thrilian, it can still save someone else."

Max nodded. "Yeah... Okay..." He said sitting back down to eat. "This is really good." He said trying his best to smile.

"Mommy! Daddy cheated!" Samuel complained. "What? Your kidding right?" "No! He ended the game before it started! How am I supposed to play with somone who just tips over his king over and over again?!" Clara laughed. "Oh is that all? That's not cheating." "I know but it's annoying!" Mathew laughed, and said. "Okay okay I'll play right." "Yes!" Samuel sat back down to play a real game of chess.

"I'm glad you like it!" Samantha smiled warmly to him before continuing, "You don't think I'm weird do you?" She asked.

"What? No. Why do you ask?" He said blinking and looking confused.

"Oh come on! Look at the stuff I make, Max!" Samantha held up one of the syringes.

"So? I think it's amazing to be able to make things like that. I wouldn't know where to start..." He said smiling at her.

"Well...at least I know what to do if I want instant children..." Samantha smiled and put the syringe down.

Max laughed. "It's one way." He said smiling at her, and continuing to eat.
