Random RP for me and Cricket

"Okay! Are you ready to go?" Robert seemed very nice even with the possibility of his girlfriend noticing. Though he knew without a doubt that Jamie understood that his job required him to be like this. But it wasn't that reason that made him so soft hearted, it was just his personality.

"Yes si-... yes, I'm ready." She smiled warmly as she stood up. "Thank you so much... I don't know how to repay you..." She fumbled through her purse for a few spare dollars, maybe she had some left behind. She found two, and placed them in his hand. "I know it's not enough... but I will pay you back fully! I promise..." She trembled as she stood there, she didn't know why... but she felt she should do this. Kyle will understand... I'll just save up and give him his two dollars a little late for his birthday.

"No." Robert put it back in her hands quickly, "I'm not taking that." He said in a serious tone.

Kirah stared at him dumbly. "B-but... please I can't pay you back now... but I can over time!" She was dead serious... this was what you were supposed to do, right? You're supposed to pay for your own meals... "Please, just take it! I don't want to be in any more debt!" Tears filled her eyes, she didn't understand why he would want to pay for her. Money is precious, that's one less meal he could buy for himself, or his girlfriend.

Robert was shocked, "Kirah, please don't cry! You don't need to pay me back! I would never take you out to eat and expect you to pay me back for it, that's not how I work okay?" He put his hands on her shoulders, "Please...I know you need this more than I do."

Kirah cried even harder at his words. Why did he care? She didn't understand. "I'm sorry... I don't understand." She stated between sobs. "Why do you even care?" It was easy to tell, she'd been broken more than once... she had zero self-confidence, and yet... she was never rude, never unkind... She stared at the ground, clutching the two dollar-bills in her hands.

"Maybe because I'm ready to show the world the kindness they never showed me. Because I'm at the top of my game now people are nice to me and show me respect, often times I get stepped on...but I still am the way I am and I won't allow you to pay me back. There is no need for it." Robert smiled warmly.

She looked up, and stared in his eyes. He was telling the truth, she couldn't deny it. She reluctantly nodded, and placed the bills in her pocket. "I don't get you..." She said as she tried to dry her tears. "It's like... you're not afraid."

Robert sat her down gently and sat down again, "Let me tell you a story. I used to live where there were a lot of gangs and fights...my dad trained me not to be a wimp, so I was among the many who carried a gun around, from middle school to high school. One day I was walking to school when there was a huge fight. Unfortunately I was in the crossfire and got shot three times. They said I wouldn't make it through the night." He stopped there, "But I wasn't a baby, I knew there was more and I prayed for the first time in my life that God would spare me...I became a Christian that night and woke up the next morning." He told her.

She shook her head slowly. "If there is a God... then why are there so many homeless? So many like me, who work all day just to make the house payments, and hope there's enough in tips to go towards a student loan. Forget food, the stamps are for that... though the only provide enough to last a normal person a week. We make them last a month... even longer. If there is a God... why doesn't he do something?" She wanted to believe... she really did, but she didn't know how. She didn't understand that if God was so great and merciful, why he would choose to love a world so full of hate. I guess... the same way I do.

Robert sighed, "Those are questions I can't answer, Kirah. But one thing I know is that God brought you here today and this is your new day, it's your new life. This job and the pay that comes with it...it's yours. I am telling you, I could be bitter and full of angst today if I had gone and hated everyone and everything just because of my past. Instead I forgave and moved on and look at me now! Would you ever know that I used to carry a gun? Or that I was even in a gang back in my high school days?" He asked, it was hard to believe, this professional man, looking so calm and laid back was once something like that?

Kirah sighed as she fingered a packet of ketchup absentmindedly. "Actually, no... I wouldn't believe it. Would you believe I was a straight A student, had a scholarship and everything... but lost it?" She couldn't let go of her past... it was one thing among few, that was extremely hard for her... she couldn't forget it.

"I can believe that, there is something about you that says you can do it. You have that look in your eyes. Somewhere in there you do." Robert said, he was really trying to encourage her.

"Thank you... for not saying anything to my manager when she corrected me. It just makes things worse... she was really mad that daay. It was her birthday, and she had to work... I guess I can understand that..." She was rambling for the most part, but for some reason she found it easy to talk to this man... to Robert.

Robert nodded, "I was really angry but I held it in." Suddenly his pager went off and he frowned, "Ugh, my partner had a lab accident. I need to go check this out. Do you need a ride anywhere?" He asked looking at her after putting his pager away.

"No," She said with a smile. "I can walk home!" She stood up slowly, and her shirt caught on the edge of the table, ripping quite badly. She realized a second too late, and covered her chest with her arms, sitting back down and pulling her knees up to her chest to cover herself. She was bright red, and she knew he must've seen something... but she dared not look at him.

Robert sat mostly in shock, trying to figure out what to do.
"Hold on one sec!" He turned and dialed Jamie's number.

"'Ello?"

"Jamie? This is Robert, can you come down...my new employee had a bit of an incident, bring a shirt." He said, mostly in a hushed voice so Kirah wouldn't hear.

Jamie was there in less than ten minutes and went straight over to Kirah.

"Hi there! I'm going to help you out okay?" She said cheerfully.

Kirah nodded slowly, but made no move to do anything... she was in shock herself, and her face had lost it's ivory tinge, and gained a beat red color. I guess this is what happens when you where a shirt that's too big...

Jamie smiled, "Okay, I want you to stand up for me after I do this okay?" She dropped a bag off her shoulder and pulled out a long pink colored blanket and wrapped it around Kirah.

"Okay, now come with me to the ladies room and I'll give you a shirt okay?"

Kirah nodded, and stood up, walking to the bathroom with her. "Thank you so much... I'm really sorry about this..."

"No problem at all!" Jamie led her into the ladies room and pulled a shirt out of her bag, the top looked like it would have a perfect fit.

"Here you go, I hope this shirt fits you good enough, I tried to find something nice." Not only did it look nice but it was brand new; the tag was still on it.

Kirah stared at it, and took the shirt from her, gratefully. "It's beautiful... thank you." She stepped into one of the stalls, and when she came out... well let's just say that her once hidden figure was now showing. She looked amazing, and no longer looked so... huge. "Does it look okay?" She seemed a little self-conscious as she kept looking down at the shirt. She was little, and probably weighed about 115lbs. To have been wearing an XL shirt was like putting a newborn baby in a queen-sized bed.

"You look just excellent!! I knew it would suit you! I remembered you from the store yesterday when Robert said he was hoping interview you today." Jamie smiled, "He said he had to go but I can give you a ride anywhere if you want me to!"

"No... I can walk." She smiled warmly, "I'll bring the shirt back to you tomorrow..." She tried not to touch it too much, lest it get too dirty. Then she'd have trouble getting the stains out, because she didn't have any SHOUT!...

"Excuse me? That's yours, I really want you to have it!" Jamie exclaimed, she and Robert had one thing in common when it came to people: once it is given never take it back.
